I was up earlybecause I was teaching a workshop at Rakkasah East. She always calls meearly to make sure she is the first to wish me a Happy Birthday andsing. This year when she called, she told me some very importantinformation (this is an exact quote): "Carmine,on the day you were born, when I was going into labor. I have the wonderful job of traveling the worldteaching people how to play doumbek. It brings me great joy to havesomeone who has never played a musical instrument before be able toplay several rhythms after just one class. My specialty is teachingdrummers and dancers how to work together. I love my job.
